Leila Zerrougui of Algeria Appointed Special Representative of United Nations Stabilization Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo

Ms. Zerrougui succeeds Maman Sidikou of Niger, who completed his assignment in January 2018.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Leila Zerrougui of Algeria as his Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

A legal expert in human rights and the administration of justice, Ms. Zerrougui “brings more than 30 years of experience in rule of law and protection of civilians, as well as a demonstrated record of management and leadership,” announces the UN.

Born in 1956, Ms. Zerrougui graduated from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (Algiers) in 1980.  Since 1993, she has held various academic positions at law schools in Algeria, and was associate professor of the Ecole Supérieure de la Magistrature in Algiers.
