The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, is currently holding a press conference to present the results of the activities of Algerian diplomacy during of the year 2024.
According to Mr. Attaf “this conference is organized on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during his speech addressed to the nation before the two chambers of Parliament”, specifying that “the year 2024 was for us marked by strengthening the dissemination of Algerian diplomacy and improving its position and role, both regionally and internationally.”
In the eyes of Mr. Attaf, “the year 2024 was characterized by the increase and aggravation of conflicts, disputes and wars, in a tense international context, without precedent since the Cold War”, adding that “it was imperative for us to adapt to the transformations observed on a regional and international scale, and we continue our efforts to preserve the interests of our country and strengthen its role, both in the Arab, African, Islamic and Mediterranean world, as well as in outside of these belongings.
Also, the minister notes that “with all the developments and transformations that the year 2024 has undergone, we have observed a catastrophic shift in international relations over the last three years”, indicating that “Algeria is dedicating its mandate to the UN Security Council in defense of just causes, at the head of which is the Palestinian cause and the question of Western Sahara.

Furthermore, he affirms that “it is to the honor of Algeria, since its accession to the Security Council, that it has been at the origin of all the initiatives aimed at maintaining attention on the Palestinian cause “, on the one hand and “that it has proposed numerous draft resolutions and declarations to the Security Council with the aim of curbing the Zionist aggression against Gaza”.
In this sense, Mr. Attaf affirms that “Algeria has put back on the agenda the issue of the full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations on the basis of its legitimate rights” , recalling that “Algeria’s position on the question of Western Sahara draws its strength and its accuracy from historical principles which do not tolerate any falsification, because it is a question of decolonization whose process has not been completed », while emphasizing that “the Sahrawi people are masters of their inalienable rights, and the Moroccan occupation is a complete aggression which cannot be legitimized as a fait accompli. We confirm that any solution to the question of Western Sahara which contradicts decolonization is an illusion, such as autonomy.”
Based on this observation, Mr. Attaf underlines that “our vision at the Security Council and the instructions of the President of the Republic remain a road map for Algeria through main axes and Algeria constantly acts as a voice Arab and African, advocating for the concerns of Arab and African nations as well as the aspirations of their people with honesty and sincerity.
As proof, Attaf further explains, “the efforts made by Algeria during its mandate were welcomed with satisfaction by all Arab countries and were carried out in coordination with the Arab League and the African Union”, recalling that “among the directives of the President of the Republic include the objective of making Algeria a force of positive proposal, contributing to bridging the fractures and divergences, which had an impact on the unification of the group of 10 elected officials and the African bloc in within the International Security Council”, in turn highlighting that Algeria’s conviction remains firm that “the destiny of humanity is linked to that of the United Nations and the restoration of the role of the organization, in order to enable him to fully fulfill his responsibilities.
