The Foreign Affairs Ministry refutes the news reported by foreign media on the alleged “warning issued by the Algerian Government” to the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), said Monday the ministry’s spokesman Abdelaziz Benali-Chérif.
In response to a question of APS “about an alleged warning issued by the Algerian Government to MINURSO on the threat of kidnapping against foreigners in the Sahrawi refugee camps, reported by foreign media, including an electronic site under French law activating in Algeria,” Benali-Chérif stressed that “the media outlets used in the dissemination of this false and unfounded information, aim at the manipulation and the spread of wacky information, with the obvious purpose of harming Algeria, its people and its institutions”.
“The alleged warning of the Algerian Government to MINURSO is all the more fanciful and contrived that the Sahrawi camps in Tindouf are part of the Algerian territory which security and integrity is ensured by the Algerian Security Forces, chiefly by the National People’s Army”.
The ministry’s spokesman also noted that “the timing chosen by these media outlets and their sponsors is far from fortuitous, taking into account the regional context, particularly as major milestones are approaching”.
