ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, participated on Tuesday, 14 June 2022, in the 19th edition of the meeting of African heads of diplomacy and their counterparts from Nordic countries, held in Helsinki (Finland), said a statement from the Ministry.
“This annual meeting is part of the dialogue established in 2001 between African and Nordic countries on the main contemporary challenges of global scope, with a view to promoting approaches based on multilateralism”, specifies the same source.
The Ministry notes that “the emphasis was placed during this edition on issues of peace and security in the world, particularly in Africa. This meeting was also marked by the presidency of Algeria, jointly with Finland, of the main session”.
Mr. Lamamra, who attended the meeting at the invitation of his Finnish counterpart, Pekka Haavisto, “seized the opportunity to outline Africa’s efforts in conflict prevention and resolution and underline the imperative for the international community to further support African initiatives by encouraging the establishment of partnerships that respond to the needs and priorities of the continent,” the document further underlines.
“Finally, and on the sidelines of this event, the head of the Algerian diplomacy had bilateral talks with his counterparts from the Nordic countries, including in particular Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Norway. He also had meetings with several of his counterparts from African countries who took part in the work of this meeting, in particular the Foreign Ministers of South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania and Niger”, concludes the press release from the Ministry.
