On the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Independence of Algeria, on July 5, 1962, the Embassy of Algeria in Helsinki invited members of the Algerian community established in Finland to attend the commemorative festivities organized for this historic circumstance, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Arena Center Myllypuro, Helsinki.
A rich programme has been drawn up for our compatriots to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty. This programme began with a futsal tournament at the end of which medals and a cup were awarded to the players of the winning team.
The official programme began with the national anthem and the opening address of H.E. Mr. Djamel Moktefi, Ambassador of Algeria to Finland, who did not fail to salute the memory of our valiant Chouhada and to glorify our valiant Mujahideen who sacrificed themselves to liberate our dear Homeland from the yoke of colonialism.
Thematic conferences with the screening of a historical documentary animated the rest of the event giving it an exceptional cachet. It ended with the announcement of the creation of a Finnish-Algerian Friendship Association whose objectives are aimed at promoting relations between Algeria and Finland.
At the end of the official ceremony, the distinguished guests were invited to taste traditional Algerian dishes and cakes in a setting decorated with national colors.
This celebration of the 60th anniversary of national independence saw, for the first time, the largest gathering of Algerian nationals in Finland.
